CHOPTANK RIVER SHELLFISH CLOSURE

The Secretary of Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) pursuant to Natural Resources Article, section §4-1103 and section §4-1037 of Maryland’s Annotated Code proposes that the following areas in La Trappe Creek, Choptank River, Talbot County, be closed to shellfish harvest for the purpose of establishing an oyster sanctuary and reserve effective Friday, October 11, 2002. These closures have been coordinated with the local County Oyster Committees and Tributary Strategy Team.

The sanctuary includes all the waters of La Trappe Creek upstream (northerly) of a line beginning at a point at or near the south entrance of an unnamed cove on the east side of La Trappe Creek defined by Latitude 38º 38’ 09.4" N and Longitude 76º 06’ 27.7" W; then running approximately 269º (true) to a point at or near the north entrance of an unnamed cove on the west side of La Trappe Creek defined by Latitude 38º 38’ 09.7" N and Longitude 76º 06’ 56.2" W.

The reserve includes all the waters of La Trappe Creek upstream (northerly) of a line beginning at a point at or near the east side of the mouth of La Trappe Creek, defined by Latitude 38º 37’ 36.8" N and Longitude 76º 06’ 56.3" W; then running approximately 288º (true) to a point at or near the southerly tip of Martin Point, defined by Latitude 38º 37’ 42.8" N and Longitude 76º 07’ 19.5" W, and downstream of a line beginning at a point at or near the south entrance of an unnamed cove on the east side of La Trappe Creek defined by Latitude 38º 38’ 09.4" N and Longitude 76º 06’ 27.7" W; then running approximately 269º (true) to a point at or near the north entrance of an unnamed cove on the west side of La Trappe Creek defined by Latitude 38º 38’ 09.7" N and Longitude 76º 06’ 56.2" W.
