COMMERCIAL SPINY DOGFISH FISHERY LANDING LIMITS IN MARYLAND WATERS

The Secretary of Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), pursuant to the Code of Maryland Regulations 08.02.05.24, announced that effective 12:01 a.m., Monday, May 21, 2007, Maryland licensed fishermen without a federal spiny dogfish permit may possess and land up to 3000 pounds per day from Maryland waters (0 – 3 miles from shore) but may not harvest spiny dogfish from the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ; 3 – 200 miles from shore). Maryland licensed fishermen with a federal spiny dogfish permit may possess and land in Maryland 600 pounds of spiny dogfish per day from State waters or waters of the EEZ. An individual may temporarily relinquish their federal spiny dogfish permit through the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) in order to possess and land spiny dogfish from Maryland waters at the higher daily trip limit. These daily landings may be modified or the fishery may be closed if the NMFS determines the fishery quota is reached.
