The Secretary of Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) pursuant to Code of Maryland Regulation 08.02.10.01 has announced modifications for the 2005 commercial horseshoe crab fishery.
The total allowable catch is 170,653 horseshoe crabs for the 2005 season. A person must land at least one male horseshoe crab for each female horseshoe crab landed. The commercial horseshoe crab fishery in Maryland waters opened Friday, April 1, 2005 and will continue as described in regulation.
The Secretary may, by public notice, alter the catch limits or close the season if the catch rates exceed expectations or the allowable catch is taken earlier than expected.
