2010 Commercial Yellow Perch Fishery – Declaration of Intent

The Declaration of Intent period for the 2010 commercial yellow perch fishery will be open from October 1 – November 2, 2009. In order to be eligible to commercially harvest yellow perch in 2010, you must complete the application form included with this letter and return it to the Department by November 2, 2009. Failure to return this form by November 2nd will result in you being ineligible for the 2010 fishery. DNR service centers will not be accepting this form. Applications must be mailed to:

The 2010 yellow perch season opens January 1 and continues through March 10, 2010 or until the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for a management region (Upper Bay, Chester and Patuxent) is reached. Details of the 2010 commercial fishery, including the TACs, are currently being developed.

  • Effective January 26, 2009 the new recreational yellow perch regulation states a 9 inch minimum and 10 fish creel limit statewide.


  • Reminder - Though the new regulations effective in January, 2009, opened up the previously closed Magothy and Severn Rivers, there are still sections closed within each watershed. In the Magothy, from the base of Lake Waterford downstream for 3300 feet, a person cannot fish for any kind of fish in February, March and April. During February, March and April a person may not fish in the Severn or Severn Run from the Route 3 Bridge downstream for 2400 feet.
