Sea Bass Ocean Trip
Location: Ocean City
I just returned from my first Seabass trip to Ocean City Maryland this year 2014. I heard that fishing has improved from a slow start this spring. I boarded the Morning Star headboat and we traveled about 2 and 1/2 hours to our first spot. The boat tried a little Tuna trolling on the way but no luck. We arrived and started fishing. As I was letting my line on the first drop, it stopped going down and to my surprise I hooked a Dorado which fought like a Bluefish. Afterwards I caught Seabass most of which I had to throwback. However I hooked one nice fish which I kept. We moved to another spot and I caught a nicer fish, continued fishing and caught more keepers. Toward the end of the day I caught a nice fish in the 2-3 lb range which I thought would win the pool. Unfortunately someone got one slightly bigger. Fishing was good with some nice fish being caught. I caught 1 Dorado and 8 Seabass. Three of the Seabass were nice fish. On the way home the boat trolled for Tuna but still no luck. There are Dorado out at the reefs and wreck sites and they often take clam baits as they are lowered to the bottom. Maybe some big ones are possible. Overall a good summer trip. Tight lines.
