A Good Mothers Day On Loch Raven

Type: Freshwater
Region: Central
Location: Loch Raven

Me and my Buddy Nick Trageser decided to get some fishing in on 5/11 before we dedicated the rest of the day to Mom, and we had a great time! We arrived at or favorite spot at about 7:30 and quickly got started. The weather was awesome It was around 78 degrees and partly cloudy with a slight breeze, the water clarity was about 2 feet due to the rain the night before. I was using a 3ft diving Crank bait and he was using a Texas rigged shaky head. Within a half an hour Nick pulled in a nice 13 inch largemouth and I had pulled in 2 Chain Pickerels the 1st measuring 14 inches and the second was 15 inches. A short time later I landed a 14 inch largemouth and Nick landed a 10 inch largemouth. Just when we were ready to pack it up we got the biggest surprise everů. While we were trolling Nick cast his shaky head right next to a log and as soon as it hit the water he shouted "stop the motor I got something!!" I quickly shut it down and noticed he wasn't joking. I asked what he thought it was ,"a big bass" he replied "it's gotta be it's fighting too hard" I agreed after a short fight the fish began to surface, to both of our amazements it wasn't a bass it was a catfish!!! A bullhead I think? We quickly measured and weighed it, 2 1/4 lbs and almost 13 inches, I was amazed I never thought I'd see one of us catch a catfish with an artificial lure on the first cast while trolling! Let alone one that was a pound and a few ounces from tying the state Record!

All the fish we caught were released safely to enjoy another day. Mom wasn't the only one who enjoyed this date! Good luck and tight lines y'all!!
