MSSA Fishing Tournament
Region: Mid Bay
Location: From Thomas Point to Tilghman Island
WOW! What a great fishing weekend to start the MSSA Fishing Tournament. We had a late start on Friday because of work (I know... that is no excuse!)
Our plans were to fish Thomas Point Lighthouse and points further south. We were able to keep the boat on the South River saving much travel time and leaving us with more fishable time on the water.
Knowing we only had a few hours to fish on tournament time we started off at Thomas Point Lighthouse trolling eastward toward Bloody Point Lighthouse. We saw a lot of fish on the sounder. As we headed into deeper water we kept seeing better markings. We ended up in 162 feet of water. As we turned the boat around towards the western shore and started trolling up to about 70 feet of water on that edge we caught this beautiful 36 inch 34 pound rock on a white tandem rig at 125 feet back. Unfortunately we ran out of time on the tournament that day.
We started off Saturday at 6 o'clock sharp and headed south. We began fishing at Breezy Point trolling eastward toward the south end of Tilghman Island. The plan was to zig-zag up the bay. We saw a ton of fish through out the morning but no bites. As we zig-zagged up the bay toward Chesapeake Beach in about 45 foot of water we caught our first fish of the day a 38 inch rock on another white tandem rig. So we kept on trolling toward the shipping channel around Poplar Island. We started crossing the channel and caught out next 39 inch 37 pound rock fish on a white umbrella rig. Our tournament was now over as we did not want to throwback that beauty. We started heading back but still trolling. At this point we were toward Deale on a northwest course. Within a half hour we snagged another 34 pound rock. We threw that back to the bay for another day since we had our limit.
What a great weekend!
