Does MD Stock Brook Trout?
I caught this Brook Trout in the Antietam. It was estimated to be in the 15-17 inch range (released without measuring). Are Brook Trout stocked in the creek? I have caught dozens of trout out of the creek over the years, but never a Brook Trout, only rainbows and browns.
DNR Response: Hi Bill, Maryland does not stock Brook Trout anywhere within our state, and our native Brook Trout have been extirpated in the Antietam Creek mainstem in Maryland. However within the Antietam watershed upstream in Pennsylvania, the PA Fish Commission does stock many hatchery reared Brook Trout of this size and this is likely where this fish came from, and from its appearance it is indicative of a hatchery trout. Regardless it is a great catch!
