Blue Catfish Habitat Use and Movement Study

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Patuxent River

Biologists at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center are studying the habitat use and movement of Blue Catfish in the Patuxent River. In 2013 and 2014, Blue Catfish will be fitted with surgically implanted internal acoustic tags that transmit a signal to a line of receivers placed along the river allowing us to track their movement. The fish will be marked externally with a pink spaghetti tag. To find out more about this study please visit http://www.serc.si.edu/labs/fish_invert_ecology/invasives/overview.aspx or contact Matt Ogburn at 443-482-2203.

Tag Color: Pink - Length: ~3" - Tag reads: "PLEASE RELEASE - TELEMETRY STUDY - NO. 00##; SMITHSONIAN ENV. RES. CTR. 443-482-2203." We request that you please return these fish to the river alive. There is NO REWARD FOR PINK TAGS. If you do catch one of these fish, please note the tag number and call the phone number listed on the tag to find out more about the fish and report its location.
