Patuxent Brown Trout
Location: Patuxent River Delayed Harvest Area
I went trout fishing at the Patuxent off Rt. 29 on Sunday since it had been freshly stocked on Friday. I had to travel almost a mile down river before I even saw any trout in the water. It was slow all morning and all the good spots were dominated by fly fishermen. I finally managed to find a good hole and could see several trout holding in the hole and many were feeding on flies off the surface. Some were getting almost completely out of the water attacking these insects. I drifted and jigged a Trout Magnet through the hole and caught several including this beauty. Nothing huge but super fun to catch on light tackle. It made the trip worthwhile. Having a great spring so far and its only pre-season!
Were only brown’s stocked in the Patuxent? Also were they stocked right at 29 or farther down because I didn’t see anything in the river for quite a ways? I told anyone I saw fishing this area to move farther down to find fish. Thanks DNR for providing such a great opportunity to catch these fish.
DNR Response: Yes, some brown trout were stocked in the Middle Patuxent (Delayed Harvest) and Patuxent River (Catch & Return Area)
