Ice Fishing and Key Lime Pie
Location: Piney Reservoir
I was looking forward to this day all week. If everything went as planned I would be venturing on my first Ice Fishing excursion. The plan was to head over to Piney Reservoir located in Frostburg, MD. The weather in Garrett County was overcast, cold and windy. As we were standing out on the ice, Marcus described it the best when he exclaims “Is it Sleeting!?
The ice was at least 8 inches thick. Kenny and Alan used a motorized augur to make holes in the ice. We set some poles with minnows and bobbers, set some tip-ups, and each of us had a pole on hand with maggot-tipped lures for jiggin’ the line. Kenny caught the first yellow perch. He also caught the next two. I would have a picture of them if he didn’t insist on throwing them back before I could, I guess they weren’t too impressive in size (just kidding, Kenny).
Marcus had his usual streak of luck with ice fishing- zero. I must say though he gave it his all, with his positive attitude and spunk, I really thought he was going to get that great big catch of a tiger muskie. Don’t give up, Marcus, one day you’ll get one.
s for myself, with the help of the fellows, I brought up a nice yellow perch using a minnow and bobber. The yellow perch, hanging out with fellow fishing buddies, and the key lime pie was the highlight of the day.
