Greatest Day Ever Trout Fishing!

Type: Freshwater
Region: Western
Location: North Branch Potomac at Barnum

My buddy Jimmy and I were headed up to Barnum to do some trout fishing. I had purchased some Berkeley Gulps especially for this trip. The river was up and moving quite fast, and it had began to snow. We stopped at a nice looking hole which looked to be promising. After several casts with no hits, I decided to walk downstream a little ways. There was a big tree out over the water and I could just make out a big rock about 15 feet out. I just knew there had to be a fish under that rock to get out of the swift current. I made a perfect cast a little up from the rock, and let the current pull the gulp right under the rock, a few quick jerks to give the gulp a wounded action and SLAM I got nailed like a freight train. As soon as I set the hook, the huge bow came out of the water and took my breath away. Using a single hook I knew I had to play him out and immediately called for my buddy to come get the net. After an intense battle for about 15 minutes I was able to get him close enough to see how big he actually was. There was no way he was going to fit in the little net I had, so I handed the rod to my buddy. Once I got my hands on the giant I could see the hook was almost out so this was it. I'd either get him now or he was gone. I reached down got one hand around his tail and with the other I pulled him to my chest and ran up the bank. Greatest Day Ever!
