Beautiful Day Catching Cutbows

Type: Freshwater
Region: Central
Location: Savage Mill

I decided to hike around Savage Mill with my family on Sunday (10/21/12). Since I had my fishing gear in the car, I brought it along on the hike. Water level looked great and pretty clear for the Middle Patuxent. I knew the fall trout stocking had just taken place up there so when we stopped to have lunch, I decided to toss my line. I was using my Redington Classic Trout 9' 4wt and a hopper initially since I had seen so many jumping around the trails. I hooked into a few bluegill and fallfish, nothing big but put up a decent fight on the 4wt. I headed up the creek a bit, right below the falls and tossed a size 12 Olive BH Wooly Bugger into the run and pool and hooked up on a nice 12.5" stocked bow, it had a lot of color for a stocked fish. After sending it back to live another day, I hooked into 3 more fish that broke me off all right near shore. Eventually I landed two more bows, within about 10 minutes of each other, 14" and 13.75", both were released. Amazing fish and beautiful day. All fish were caught dead drifting the Bugger through the run and deep into the pool.
