Good Sized Bass on Lake Elkhorn

Type: Freshwater
Region: Central
Location: Lake Elkhorn

Top water bite is good at Lake Elkhorn Dam in Columbia, MD in the early morning or late afternoon. I tend to have my best luck on a top water spro frog black or white or any color really. I also have caught a few good fish on senkos and other plastics such as baby brush hogs using anywhere from a 1/16-1/2 weight and a Gamakatsu 5/O hook. The two big boys you see first (the one with the frog down its throat weighed in at 2.66 lbs, the big bellied one I'm holding up with my proud grin was 3.36 lbs) The two pictures of the last bass was caught June 29th on a black spro frog in early morning and weighed 3.65 lbs. That is the biggest bass I've got out of this lake yet but I have seen pictures of bigger fish pulled out of here. Bites are few and far between right now here in the summer months but if you put in the time good sized bass can be caught in this lake. I also will work the edges of the grass beds by the shore and in them with a flipping jig. Got some little ones doing this nothing big on jigs in here yet though. Looking for that 5 or 6 lber I know are in here. I know that the one picture of the 2 1/2 lber is all bloody but I can assure you no fish were hurt on my outings to Lake Elhorn. He swam off safely with a lot of pep left. Good Fishing!
