2008 Striped Bass Seasons and Quotas

Maryland utilizes a quota based harvest management system to manage its striped bass fishery and because the stock size of striped bass varies over time, annual quotas for the commercial fishery are established for each year. The following is a summary of Chesapeake Bay gill net and Atlantic seasons and quotas for this year.

Chesapeake Drift Gill Net/ Hook and Line (combined fishery)

Striped Bass declarees that hold a valid TFL or FIN license were able to declare for both gill net and hook & line gears for the 2008 season. Striped bass declarees that hold only an HLI license were restricted to only declaring for the hook & line season.

  Season:
    1/1/2008 to 2/29/2008 and 12/01/2008 to 12/31/2008
  Quota:
    Daily 500 lbs/licensee
    Season Jan 2008 = 375,429 lbs
    Feb 2008 = 476,897 lbs
    Dec 2008 = 162,348 lbs
 

Chesapeake Hook & Line:

Fishing will be restricted to Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week. Days may be added or removed later in the season depending on remaining quota.

In order to participate in this fishery, participants must have
a Department sealed haul seine.

Atlantic Trawl and Atlantic Drift Gill Net
  Season: 01/01/08 to 04/30/08 and 11/03/08 to 12/31/08
  Quota:
    Season = 1,900 lbs/licensee
