| Commercial Yellow Perch Regulations for 2008 |
|
The new yellow perch regulations make several significant changes for commercial watermen. The regulations extend the prohibition of harvest and sale from February 1 through March 14, 2008. The regulations also prohibit fyke net setting in the river above any point less than 200 feet wide in the following watersheds: Bohemia River, Northeast River, Sassafras River, Elk River, Bush River, Bird River, Gunpowder River, Chester River, Choptank River, Nanticoke River, Patuxent River, and Potomac River. Commercial watermen ARE allowed to set fyke nets in these watersheds below a point where the river is greater than 200 feet wide during the month of February. However, as in previous seasons, anyone fishing any kind of net in Maryland in February and the first 14 days of March must throw back any yellow perch caught.
