SFAC/TFAC Striped Bass Catch & Release Comment Board

On Tuesday, October 20th 2009, there will be a joint meeting of DNR’s Sport and Tidal Fisheries Advisory Commissions. The meeting will take place at Anne Arundel Community College, at the Arnold, MD campus from 6-9 PM in Room CALT 100. As part of the agenda, there will be a discussion of pre season catch and release fishing for striped bass. This is a joint meeting of the commissions, and although there will be an opportunity for public comment at the meeting, it will likely be very limited. Because many groups/people have expressed an interest in this subject, and time for public comment at the Joint SFAC/TFAC meeting is limited, DNR is recommending that members of the public reach out and contact individual SFAC & TFAC commissioners to express their comments. DNR has also established the Comment Board below to allow input by the public. We will be asking the appointed commissioners to review the comments posted on this board. DNR managers will also be reviewing the comments on the board. Before you provide a comment, please review the Striped Bass Catch and Release Power Point Presentation, and the following handouts: Post Moratorium Striped Bass Fishery History, Striped Bass Juvenile Index.

Before you can enter a formal comment, you must provide your e mail address and name. Comments should be brief, civil and relevant to the issues defined in the Power Point Presentation. Once a comment has been entered, it will be downloaded for review by DNR staff for posting to the Online Comment Board. The Comment Board will be updated each day at 3 PM. Comments which are not relevant to issues addressed in the Power Point Presentation, or are offensive will not be posted.

Comments received through October 19th will be forwarded to both commissions.
Comments will continue to be received through Friday, October 23rd.

A complete synopsis to the comments will be posted to the commissions web sites and distributed to the commissioners. If you have any questions regarding public participation in this process, please contact Paul Genovese: pgenovese@dnr.state.md.us
