Adkins Mill Pond

Located in Wicomico County



Physical/Habitat Descriptions - Adkins Mill Pond is a 4 acre impoundment in south central Wicomico County. The pond is tannic and shallow with the deepest area near the upper reaches of the pond. The upper reaches of the pond are heavily forested with some bald cypress. Four walking trails exist for accessing this area. There is a picnic pavilion, modern restrooms and a dock for public use.

Fish Species - Adkins Mill Pond supports a standard bass/bluegill (largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill) fishery and is managed accordingly. Anglers may also occasionally catch other species including: pumpkinseed sunfish, brown bullhead catfish, golden shiners, creek chubsucker, black crappie, chain pickerel and common carp, bluespotted sunfish and American eel.

Restrictions - No gas motors greater than 10 horsepower are permitted on the lake. Camping and swimming are not permitted.

History - The State Highway Administration owns the Lake and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Fishing and Boating Services, Freshwater Fisheries Division has been solicited by Wicomico County to provide management advice on the impoundment. Fiscal resources for this work and maintenance of the grounds comes from fishing license sales and the Federal Aid and Restoration Fund (Dingell-Johnson Act).
