Seneca Creek State Park

Description: Warm up by the campfire while decorating gourds, listening to ghost stories and snacking on s'mores. In event of rain, program will be moved indoors at the park office. Registration required: please call park office 301-924-2127.

Directions: From Washington, D.C, Virginia and points south, take I-270 north towards Frederick, Maryland. Take Exit 10, Clopper Road (Route 117). Turn right at the light at the bottom of the ramp. The park is approximately 2 miles on the left. From points north, take I-270 south towards Washington, D.C., take Exit 11 (MD Route 124 west). Turn right at the light at the bottom of the ramp. At the second light, turn right onto Clopper Road (Route 117). The park is approximately 1.5 miles on the left.

Spooky Hollow Hike

Description: Join our naturalist for a two mile hike in Spooky Hollow. Meet at Parking Lot #4 at Gallaher Road with your flashlight and sturdy shoes for an adventure hike. Dogs are welcome if they are on a leash. Please call 410-398-1246 for more information and to register. Pre-registration required. Honor system parking fees apply.

Directions: In Cecil County, exit 100 off Interstate 95 North toward Rising Sun on Route 272 North. Take a right on Rt. 273 and follow to the intersection of Rt. 273 and 213, proceed through the traffic light - Fair Hill entrance to fairgrounds, race barns, Walls Hall and riding stables is 300 yards on the right.

Description: Be led by lantern light through the area after dark! Hear ghostly tales of lost miners, local lore, tales of gruesome crime and punishment and learn about the site of Maryland's first execution for murder. Be prepared to meet some live animals along the way. Suitable for ages 8 yrs and up. A Halloween storytime and craft will be provided for younger children ages 3-8 yrs. Meet in the Visitors Center. Please call 410-461-5005 in advance to register. Cost: $5 per person or $15 per family.

Pumpkin-carving Program

Description: Come get your "haunt" on for Halloween! Join a volunteer ranger at a pumpkin-carving event for children and adults at the Visitor Center. Learn how early settlers carved jack-o-lanterns and find out how this ancient custom originated. Bring as many pumpkins as you will help your children carve. Carving knives will be supplied, but parents must assist children who are too young to handle knives by themselves. Some carving patterns will be available, but feel free to print out your own to bring along. For ages 8 and older. Meet at the visitor center. Please call 410-461-5005 to sign up, and 410-922-9690 for more information. Cost: $2 per person. This is an SDCI sponsored event.

Costumed Scavenger Hunt
