NOTICE TO BOATERS

MAJOR RIVER SYSTEM:
Choptank River – Tred Avon River-Tar Cove
COUNTY OR COUNTIES IN AREA:
Talbot County

The Department of Natural Resources has received a petition to establish a vessel speed limit of 6 knots on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays during the boating season (April 15 – October 15). This proposal would encompass all the waters of Tar Cove above a line beginning at a point approximately Lat. 38° 42’24.41”N., Long. 76° 10’6.29”W. to a point approximately Lat. 38° 42’6.60”N., Long. 76° 10’5.89”W. across the entrance to Tar Cove.

The action is being requested to control erosion caused by vessels, and to limit vessel noise and excessive speed, according to the petitioners.

The Department will conduct a survey and study of this area during the 2008 boating season. Interested parties are encouraged to provide comments on the requested regulatory change. Written comments will be accepted until September 8, 2008.
