City of Annapolis Receives New Pumpout Vessel

In a ceremony located at the City Dock in Annapolis on November 14, the City of Annapolis accepted delivery of a new marine sewage pumpout vessel to replace the Gerald W., which the City has owned and operated since 1995.  The Gerald W. was then donated to the West/Rhode Riverkeeper, Bob Gallagher, who will use the vessel to conduct pumpouts in the West and Rhode rivers beginning in 2007.  Funding for the City’s purchase of both vessels was provided through 100% grants administered by DNR's Pumpout Program.  The Pumpout Program also provides annual grants to the City to offset on-going pumpout vessel related expenses and will provide similar funding to the Riverkeeper in 2007. Funding for Maryland's Pumpout Program comes from federal Clean Vessel Act funds (75%) administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and State Waterway Improvement Fund funds (25%).
