NOTICE TO BOATERS

MAJOR RIVER SYSTEM:
Severn River - Annapolis Harbor/Spa Creek
COUNTY OR COUNTIES IN AREA:
Anne Arundel County

The Department of Natural Resources has received a request to seasonally move the beginning of the 6 knots at all time speed zone at the entrance to Annapolis Harbor in Spa Creek from a line beginning at Triton Point and running to Horn Point, to a line beginning at a red maker on the Naval Academy seawall (approximately Lat. 38°58.665' N., Long. 76°28.811'W.) to the bulkhead at the Annapolis Sailing School (approximately Lat. 38°58.554'N., Long. 76° 28.770'W.). The proposed new speed zone would apply from October 31 - April 15 each year. This area would have a 20 knots night time and 35 knots day time speed limit, during this time.

The petitioners based this request to allow better boating access to the harbor during the non-boating season when vessel traffic is light. This would be after the scheduled boat shows each year.

The Department will conduct a survey and study of this area during the 2008 boating season. Interested parties are encouraged to provide comments on the requested regulatory change. Written comments will be accepted until September 8, 2008.
