You will need both your Hull Identification Number (HIN) and Vessel Number to renew.

Online Vessel Registration Renewal

• Using the department’s online licensing and registration service (COMPASS) by logging on and using a Username and Password or DNR ID and Date of Birth.  See Step-by-Step Instructions.
  
  
• If you would like to enroll in the COMPASS system and get your DNR ID, see Step-by-Step Instructions. Having a DNR ID allows you to puchase a variety of other licenses and permits offered online by the Department of Natural Resources.
  
  
• Using the department’s online licensing and registration service (COMPASS) without logging on. Use this option to renew your vessel registration only, not to purchase additional items such as a Sport Fishing License. See Step-by-Step Instructions.
  
  
• Motor Vehicle Administration eStore. See Step-by-Step Instructions.

In Person (or via mail) at the department’s Regional Service Centers.

Motor Vehicle Administration kiosks

Upon completing the process using either online licensing and registration service (Compass), MVA eStore or MVA kiosk, the customer will receive a receipt that will serve as a 30-day temporary registration that should kept on the vessel. Original registration and decals will be mailed to the customer within 10 days.

Please Note: To be eligible to renew your vessel registration online or through the MVA Kiosk, your vessel record must meet the following criteria:

• Be within the renewal time period
• Has an active status 
• Previously completed a transaction for same vessel within the last 2 years 
• No restrictions noted on your vessel record, or customer record 
  
• Customer record must be complete with valid mailing address 
• Vessel record must be complete with all required information
