Upper Western Shore Watershed Hero:
Jo Owen

Jo Owen, awarded the Bernie Fowler Award in 2000, is the much-deserved recipient of this year's Upper Western Shore Hero Award. Words cannot describe the accomplishments of this dedicated and accomplished champion of the environment.

She has been a leader in local as well as statewide efforts, from the protection of the drinking water reservoirs of the Baltimore Metropolitan Region to nurturing the first region-wide publication of the Tributary Strategies “Fragile – handle with care” which appeared as a insert in the Sunday Sun paper. Active for years with the Federated Garden Clubs of America promoting BayScapes landscaping, she is a tireless leader who does not know what it means to “slow down” or take no for an answer.

Her efforts and accomplishments will have a lasting value for all Marylanders, today and into the future.
