Upper Eastern Shore
Watershed Hero:
Terry Willis
Terry has been a member of the Upper Eastern Shore Trib team for about four years, and since his involvement began, Terry has barely missed a meeting. He is passionate about the environment, and his contributions to the Upper Eastern Shore team have been significant. Terry originally began as an active member of the team's Agricultural practices workgroup, and he led a workteam while the Upper Eastern Shore team was developing its Environmental Atlas. Terry worked on the Living Shorelines forum – a highly successful public outreach event that focused on educating waterfront property owners about the need to replace bulkheading and riprap with softer, living natural grasses and shorelines. Most recently, Terry has led the charge and the workgroup focused on convincing Kent and Queen Anne's counties to require De-Nitrifying Septic systems for new homes constructed in the Critical Areas. Watch out Cecil, he's got his eye on you next! In related arenas, Terry has been a volunteer for the Eastern Neck Island National Wildlife Refuge for over 10 years, serving as the volunteer project manager of the sustainable energy Wind Generator project and was chosen VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR at Eastern Neck a few years back. And, in February, Terry was selected to serve as the Vice Chair of the Upper Eastern Shore team. |
